On 31st\u00a0October, we attended Cake & Bake International at the NEC in Birmingham, sponsored by Renshaw, Neilsen Massey and The Cake Decorating Co. Celebrating Halloween surrounded by life-size, realistic cakes inspired by Michael Jackon\u2019s Thriller, horror movie monsters and\u00a0elaborate, fantastical\u00a0scenes was a dream come true!\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>

Edible Elegance & Captivating Confectionery <\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

On arrival, we\u00a0took\u00a0a tour around the rows and rows of\u00a0incredible\u00a0cakes that were up for judging\u00a0in the competition.\u00a0From multi-tiered wedding and celebration cakes,\u00a0to eye-catching and sometimes\u00a0mind-boggling\u00a0edible artwork, the standard of competition was\u00a0absolutely outstanding.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The\u00a0<\/span>winner of this year\u2019s competition<\/span><\/a>\u00a0was\u00a0<\/span>Lucie Charv\u00e1tov\u00e1 of Crazy Cakes<\/span><\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0Czechia, who first entered Cake International back in 2015 and won 1<\/span>st<\/span>\u00a0place for Wedding Design of the Year, as well as 2 gold medals and 1 silver.\u00a0She has\u00a0since\u00a0won\u00a0a number of\u00a0awards at Cake International, including 1<\/span>st<\/span>\u00a0place in the horror category in 2023, and a\u00a0Gold\u00a0award\u00a0in the sculpture category in 2024.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Her\u00a0Horror Bust Cake,\u00a0Valeora, as Lucie affectionately\u00a0calls her, was a stunning confection of modelling chocolate\u00a0and\u00a0sugar,\u00a0blending\u00a0themes of nature,\u00a0beauty and decay\u00a0into a detailed sculpture\u00a0that caught the judges\u2019 eyes.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Innovations & Inspiration<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Throughout the day, there were several tutorials and talks from some of the world\u2019s\u00a0best-known\u00a0bakers.\u00a0Master Chocolatier Oliver Dunn (<\/span>Oli the Choc<\/span><\/a>) hosted on one of the stages, where a pastry chef demonstrated a method of making fondant<\/a> icing look like marble with food colouring<\/a> to decorate sophisticated wedding and celebration cakes. Later, <\/span>Juliet Sear,<\/span><\/a>\u00a0beloved baker, TV presenter and author,\u00a0joined Oli\u00a0to introduce Renshaw\u2019s new\u00a0range of fruit fillings.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

She baked chocolate<\/a> cupcakes and filled them with cherry filling<\/a>, topping them with cherries\u00a0made out of\u00a0marzipan<\/a> and red food\u00a0colouring<\/a>, decorated\u00a0with metallic<\/a> paint for a glamorous shine.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Juliet was the baker behind the\u00a0world-famous\u00a0Bruce Bogtrotter\u00a0cake in the recent musical remake of Matilda.\u00a0She spent weeks developing the\u00a0final version\u00a0for the film, baking dozens and dozens of decadent chocolate<\/a> cakes until they were happy with the recipe.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

On another stage, a baker\u00a0demonstrated\u00a0a Highland cow cake, and there was even a\u00a0Cakenstein\u00a0experience\u00a0filled with creepy Halloween themed cakes<\/a>\u00a0that had\u00a0a huge queue all day long!\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

As well as discovering some new tips and tricks for cake decorating, seeing the stunning entries to the competition, and chatting with lots of professional bakers, we also sampled some delicious bakes and saw the\u00a0<\/span>world\u2019s most\u00a0expensive\u00a0cake stand<\/span><\/a>!\u00a0Adorned with 30,000 hand-embellished Swarovski crystals,\u00a0the sparkling cake stand by Prop Options\u00a0is now\u00a0in the\u00a0Guinness Book of World Records.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The event ran for the full weekend, and Saturday and Sunday\u2019s schedules were even more exciting than Friday\u2019s!\u00a0With over 80 exhibitors, 2 stages with live demonstrations, several workshops and\u00a0hundreds of astonishing cakes entered into the competition, there was so much to see and\u00a0try,\u00a0we were in baking heaven for the day.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
